About Us

The Legal Catholic Women’s League (CWL) was organized in October 1962. We currently have 32 members and welcome women of all faiths. Our group meets once a month, excluding July, August and December.

The Legal council is part of the largest organization of catholic women in Canada with over 75,000 members. Our council is part of the St. Paul Diocese which has 19 councils with over 600 members. The first CWL council was formed in Edmonton in 1912 and it became a national council in 1920.

The first councils worked with new immigrants to help them adjust to life in Canada. As the church and CWL grew, members continued to look at the local community’s needs. Today’s councils try to support local programs and events involving community and parish life.

Our Motto “For God and Canada”

The Catholic Women’s League supports all life issues and supports women’s programs in developing countries. Did you know that the Catholic Women’s League of Canada is the only Catholic women’s organization that formally meets with federal government ministers every year to discuss issues such as in recent years, suicide prevention, child poverty, protection of human life, and Human Trafficking

What do CWL members do in Legal?

CWL raises monies and has recently donated monies to the Foodbank, Pro-Life, and “Jessie’s House” in Morinville, a shelter for all experiencing family violence. For this Advent season we are collecting new socks, toques and mitts for Hope Mission. These items can be dropped off at the church, Super Mart, and Ecole Citadelle. Our council also assists with sacramental preparation in the parish and faith development Legal School and Ecole Citadelle. Each year we donate awards to Jr. high religion students in both schools

Our council is holding a Christmas fundraiser raffle for a beautiful quilted wall hanging called “Joy to the World.” The second prize is a specialty Christmas coffee basket with quilted mug rugs, mugs, and coffees. Tickets are available after mass at St. Emile church and at the Legal Trade and Craft Fair on December 4th. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there. Stay tuned for more fundraising events in the upcoming year.

Need a Gift?

CWL has an assortment of mostly religious items for sale at the back of the St. Emile Church. Contact Bernice (780-868-7672) to view.

Are you interested in becoming a member?

Join “The League”. Remember, the higher the membership, the stronger the voice is. Belonging to the league gives members a gift of faith, friendship, leadership development and support. Also, being part of a group, and sharing similar interests, creates an atmosphere of belonging that carries over to the success of a community. Most will say that “I don’t have the time to join another club!” CWL realizes that in this busy world, it may not be possible for you to attend, but your interest and support are as important as your attendance.
