WE RESPECT YOUR PRIVACY and this policy explains how we collect and treat any information you give us. You won’t find any complicated legal terms or long passages of unreadable text. We’ve no desire to trick you into agreeing to something you might later regret.

Who we are

We are Legal & District Chamber of Commerce, a volunteer-run organization.  Our mission is to support our members and to promote and improve trade and commerce. Through that, we aim to positively influence the economic and general well-being of the district.

Our website https://legalchamberofcommerce.ca was created to support those efforts and to make information readily available.

Why we value your privacy

We value your privacy as much as we do our own, so we’re committed to keeping your personal and business information safe. We’ll never use your personal information for any reason other than why you gave it, and we’ll never give anyone access to it unless we’re forced to by law.

How we collect information

We ask for contact information including your name, email address, and phone number, on our website contact form so that we can reply to your enquiry. 

We collect your email address when you sign up for one of our newsletters and will use it for that purpose only.

We use ‘like’, ‘sharing’ and ‘follow’ buttons on our website to enable website visitors to promote events and members on social media. Interaction with those buttons is usually tracked by the corresponding social media website as per their terms of use (to which you agreed when you signed up with them).

We enable members to be listed in our public directory. Any information entered into the ‘Listing Form’ will be publicly available. Members can alter or remove their information at any time (or we can do it for them), but you should always assume that information will continue to exist somewhere on the internet beyond your control. 

We use Google Analytics to track website usage, amongst others to increase the benefit of our directory to our members. 

If you are a member, we also collect your business name and bank details and keep records of the invoices we send you and the payments you make.

What information we hold

When you contact us by email, through our website or through social media, we collect your name, email address, phone number, a social media username, and the company you work for, if you’ve given us that.

If you sign up for a newsletter, we only collect your email address.

When you fill out a ‘Listing Form’ to be listed in our directory, all that information will be publicly available on our website.

If you do business with us, we also collect your business name and bank details and keep records of the invoices we send you and the payments you make.

Where we store your information

If you sign up for a newsletter, we store your email address in MailChimp, which is the marketing platform we prefer. If we do business, we store your information in our accounts software offline. We chose these systems partly for their commitment to security.

We also store information on your device: so-called cookies. These contain information about your preferences to improve your browsing experience.  

What we use your information for

We will use your information to interact with you as requested. We will also use your information to send you invoices, statements or reminders.
